I bought a Lenovo laptop that should be delivered next week. The OS is Windows XP Pro. If I format the harddrive and wipe out the OS (having never registered it in my name) can I resell it? I will have the disk and code. I would rather run Ubuntu Linux. Thanks.

yes you can, but only the cd key. if it is oem you may need to proived a piece of hardware with the cd key.

Yes, just install Ubuntu. Ubuntu has install tools that give you the chose to wipe your hard drive or use free space.
I think you can since you will never use it. Let that be a selling feature, that you have never registered it. You paid for it with your computer.
