Blue Screen of Death and booting Problems please help! XP Pro?

My computer stopped working when i was hit with the blue screen of death. Afterwards windows booted and tried to examine the files and fix them. It automatically deleted some folders it found errors in (something along the lines of "$130" (name of file is "$130"). Now when i boot, the motherboard screen loads up, it then gets to the Windows Logo with the Blue loading bar (windows XP Pro) then it acts as if it will start up, and goes to a black screen where it remains until i turn off the computer. Any advice or knowledge please???

When using a windows setup CD the computer freezes when it says that windows is starting. I have not been able to repair windows through this process.

Also Safemode doesn't work.

Memory tests and CPU tests have been run, although not for a giant amount of time, they came back with nothing wrong.

If your CD is a full install and not a recovery CD, you can do the formatting from the CD. Your BIOS would have to be set so the CD/DVD-ROM is the first boot device. But before doing a reformat and reinstall, I'd try a Repair Install first.

You won't lose any personal settings or programs except for Windows Updates that came out after your install disk was manufactured (including SP2 if it's not on the install disk.) This link will give you instructions and screen shots of what you'll actually see:

If the Repair Install doesn't work then I'd suggest the reformat and reinstall. This link gives screen shots and instructions:

I had a similar problem once, and the only thing I could do to fix it was format the hard drive and start from scratch. If you have a floppy boot disk, then pop it into your floppy drive, go into CMOS (motherboard setup screen) and choose to boot from your floppy drive first. Make sure the floppy boot disk will allow you to boot with CD-ROM support. If you don't have a floppy boot disk, go to a friends/families house and make one. Once it boots up from the boot disk, then you'll get a c:/ prompt. Type in "format c:" After that is complete, pop in your Windows CD and reboot. Install Windows on a clean hard drive.
