Hello, I am attempting to install windows XP pro/no service pack on my new PC. During the installation sequence the program ask you where you want to install windows XP. The only problem is the unpartioned space is showing only 131069 MB when it should be showing 250 GBs as that is what I bought from Western Digital. Why is the unpartitioned space showing almost 100 Gigs less than than it should be? (There are no other partitions listed)

You have to format with software that is included with your hard drive. Anything over 136 gb have to do this. REgards.

hmmmm.....is this a clean install : formatting first to overwrite all the original disk space? rootkits sometimes create a 'hidden' sector...but if you still have doubts, try 'boot and nuke' disk cleaner/overwriter. caution; this will overwrite everthing on the harddrive. you must have the windows install disk, w/prod. key. etc. or you are screwed. get b%26amp;n from 'majorgeeks.com' freeware.
Some motherboards don't support large hard drives and are capped at; I think its 137Gb approx, you may need to look your motherboard spec and see if there is any updated bios supporting larger hard drives.
Considering what you can see and what you have it looks like this is the case.
You could try using partition magic to see if you can resize your partitions and create a second partition on each drive to claim the remainder.
See source below for details of this problem
set the BIOS on you comuter to Auto swich of computer check size in BIOS at reboot if stil same size switch on smart drive cabable in Bios if still incorrect size format disk from XP install disk to delete your small partion install XP on the partion size now available a correct install uses about 8mb of your dik capacity which is used as a ram drive to install choose chage file system to NTFS your XP should install correctly then you should have a floppy disk with your har drive from western digital which allows you to reset your drive size if your BIOS only supprts 1025 cylinders you can download a drive manger program from ontrack which makes your BIOS think your drive is 1024 but shows full capacity to your operating system if you do not have the WD floppy you canusually get a download from WD webste Hope I have been of some help to you I can email you the prog if you like Data Life Guard Tools which is the WD Floppy also check the drive jumper is not set to 33gb limit
