Reinstalling Windows XP?

My computer has become so full of junk trying to take things over that the mouse has begun beating up my cat so it is time to reinstall.

I am using Windows XP Pro.

I tried putting the disc in while Windows is running. Click "Install Windows" and I get "The installed version of Windows is newer then the version on the disc"

So I tried rebooting hoping for a prompt to load from the CD but instead it simply loads Windows again.

I tried Microsoft's site but they seem pretty useless to. All they want me to do is reboot and hit space at the prompt that never shows up.

Anyone know how to boot from the CD?

You were right to attempt to load the CD at boot-time, however as it seems the boot sequence is incorrectly configured to read from the Hard Drive first. Enter the BIOS (the key to be pressed is usually shown while the computer is starting up)... Once there check for something called 'Boot Sequence', 'Boot Priority' or similar and alter the values to set the CD / DVD-ROM drive before the Hard Disk in priority this is so as to first attempt to read from the CD / DVD if any data is present. This should allow the computer to detect the CD of Windows and will allow you to reinstall. If you have anymore questions please do not hesitate to ask :)

go into the Bios and make sure the it boots first fromm the CD
usually the key for selecting boot options is displayed at the bottom of the screen during the initial boot (the screen that displays your bio version, memory checking and hard disk connection). but also try pressing F12 function key
