I have windows xp pro, and I'm building a new pc. Can I use the same windows xp cd for my new pc? It's basically a new computer, but the cdkey is mine?
Windows xp new computer?microsoft updates
Legally, as long as you remove it from your previous computer, you can reinstall it on your new computer.
According to your Microsoft Rental Agreement (remember, you don't own that version of XP, you only have a license to 'use' it. It still belongs to BillyG), you are only allowed to use that on one computer.
You will have to re-register it when you reinstall it on your new computer and let them know that it's not being used on your old computer. Remember, Microsoft keeps track of all the hardware that is in your computer.
That's the price you pay (on top of paying for the rental of the operating system) to run Windoze.
You really should give Linux a try.
Windows xp new computer?windows server 2003 internet explorer
yeah, I guess so,
It allows 2 pc be installed for per CD
It's OK. As long as you DON'T connect it in Internet and NEVER download Automatic Updates. Just for personal use :-)
why not?
it is your, if you don't have same copy of xp in 2 computer, i don't see a problem.
you can still use Microsoft update service as usual.
Yup
yes, it's ok.. as many computers as you want, as long as you will never connect it to internet..
only one should be connected to internet, the one you choose to be a licensed computer..
but, it is the Microsoft's policy: one Licensed OS (operating system) in one computer..
Microsoft allows a copy of OS to be reloaded 5 times before it will not activate the key.
But if your trying to put both computer online same key chances are will not work, not with out some extra work.
if you take old system off line and install on new and by chance will not let you install key call Microsoft explain system failed and you are reloading everything on new system and need new key, they will give you one.
Hi!---i think its OK--follow SM J s advice and uncheck the automatically update option and you should be OK---if you are connected to the internet dont let Win Xp Pro phone home!cheers!
