Help on windows xp operating system cd?

i bought a windows xp professional cd that cost 200 dollars and the box it came with said it was and upgrade for users of windows 98 and etc. I want to install windows xp because i got windows 2ooo professional. when i put in the cd i bought it said to insert the full version of windows xp. My question is did i get the right cd because the box said something of an upgrade. The main point is that i want to delete my old operating system and install windows xp pro instead.

You can do this by inserting the CD into the ROM tray and then rebooting. Follow the prompts for the options you want to choose.

I hope this helps. Good Luck!

That's strange. Did you put in the CD after logging into your Win2k or you try to boot it when your PC restart?

You should try and put in the CD after you got into Win2k. It will prompt you to restart and everything should be automated after that. I've done upgrading from Win98 and Win2k before. Not hard at all.
two ways to do this

one. start up your computer normaly and once at your desktop insert the disk and follow the prompts

two. when your computer is loading bring you the boot menu (usally the f8 key) and select boot from cd option and then it should start the install process

if this doesnt work you have to email microsoft and get them to identify the problem
A Win XP CD which is an upgrade is supposed to work if you install it over the previous version of OS (Windows 98 in your case).

It may not install by itself, although in some cases it does if you create a Windows 98 installation directory structure (using a DOS floppy and booting with it or booting using your Win 98 SE CD).

The easy way out is to get Win XP service pack 2 CD which supports a standalone installation.
