Hello, I am trying to Install windows Xp Pro service Pack 2 on a laptop. Ive done it a few times before without any problems on the same system but now it freezes when its installing the devices at the 34 min mark.
People have told me to update my bios but i cant because the updater requires me to have the battery in the lap top but i dont have one!
Any sudjestions?

Do you have a disk that will do a hardware scan? It's possible that there is a device that is failing, and causing the issue. Also, there is an install log, if you can get to it, that will tell you where the installation stalled.
Finally, get a battery for your laptop. It shouldn't be crazy expensive.

Have you tried another windows xp CD???..maybe yours is too old..i know mine is and i had to replace it with another one.
maybe borrow a battery and update the bios.. also, the xp disc may be dirty, or the cd drive head may need cleaning.

It is the hard drive. Windows installation writes to a certain spot on the drive, and in that spot you have a bad sector or more and it can't write to it. Sometimes you can partition the drive to make it write to a different area.
