If i wanted to reinstall Windows and go from Windows xp home edition to Windows XP Pro, how is it done will the Pro installation just overwrite the Home edition installation?

Pretty much. I have never had a problem putting pro over home. It is a good idea to make a guest account. That way you can try ideas on the guest account with the damaging power of the root account.

i think u will have to reeboot and then install windows xp pro
insert xp pro disk,format your windows partition,then install.
reinstalling or updating any windows is bad idea.it will slow down your system.
hey,win xp pro will not overwrite win xp home.
1st u have to make the cd as primary boot device by pressing
f1 or f10 at system boot and then selecting write option.
after this insert win xp pro cd and contionue install of pro by booting again...
