I don't like vista. But if I replace Vista with XP Pro, will that delete all my existing files?

i recently bought a laptop that came pre-loaded with windows vista. i hate vista and want to replace it Windows Xp pro. i have a real copy of Xp pro, but was wondering if all the programs and data on my laptop would be erased if i install XP. thank you

yeah it will nuke everything ... u need to find all the xp drivers for the laptop first to ... and if it has a sata harddrive u need the sata driver also on a second disk to load at the F6 prompt when ur installing xp ...

Unfortunately Yes....The only way to get XP on that machine is to wipe the HD and install XP back onto the laptop.

Yes because Vista and XP are on different file systems and it will have conflict on downgrading but simnple upload your files or burn your files on something different source of space and you will then just format with windows xp and just replace your old stuff on there and it will be just like your old computer with all your old files but remmeber to dedicate some time and write down what you really want otherwise you will forget and loose little things that you will miss from downgrading
The only way to downgrade back to XP is to nuke the hard drive and re-install XP. So yes, everything will go away. Data files can be burnt to CD/DVD or moved to another computer before hand.
Like all the others sad, yes. You will loose everything, IF you don't make a backup of your files before installing XP.



Also, create a dedicated partition for your future XP instalation and another one for all your files. This way, next time you need to reinstall the system, you won't need to worry about this problem anymore.
