Is the Windows XP "backup program" worth using?

I understand it can be found in Windows XP pro and as a ValueAdd in home edition.

Nonetheless, I have the window backup program but have not used it.

Can someone shed any light on the matter? Is it worth messing with?

All I want to backup is "My Documents" which contains all of the family photo's as well as various documents I've saved to this site over the years.

Windows XP back program is no good. I have had problems with it before. When you try to restore files that were backed up you get errors. I really dont think its worth the time or headaches. Simple burn the entire my documents folder onto a CD or flash drive. Works great for me. Good luck.

You can use Nero to back those files up onto a CD or DVD.
it is not reliable as your only back up. I would not waste my time.

The Go Back Feature is better.

Buy programs like ghost to do back up.
The backup program that is included with windows has it's begginings with Seagate Backup Exec which then became Veritas and is now owned by Symantec. This program may be simple, but in the right hands can be VERY reliable. If you have some money to spend, buy something else. But if you want free, there is not a better alternative. With the newer MS OSs, you can even incorporate some fancy recovery options if you want. But it sounds like your needs are very simple. Use Windows Backup...
ok it's easy, it's like

windows backup = notepad

3d party backup progs = word

it means that windows backup has less features options, and some times it's not stable, so i don't like it. i'd recomend to use true image, i think it's the most convenient prog for backup operations.
