How do I transfer a program from a Windows 2k Pro laptop to a Windows XP laptop?

Can't find the program CD's. The Windows 2K laptop doesn't have a burner. It does have a usb port. I wish it was another XP machine cuz then I could just use the Files and Settings transfer wizard but 2K doesn't have that. So what do I do?

not an easy solution

- usb thumb drive

- copy the folder of the program ( c:\program files\)

- make note of the shortcut that you open to run the program

- copy that location down

- paste into new computer ( c:\program files)

- locate the original shortcut information that you copied down

- browse that folder on new computer and find the program as listed int he shortcut

- open it

- if you see dll errors, try copying the dll mentioned from old pc to new pc and put the dll in the same folder onthe new pc as was on the old one

- if that fails, not much else you can do.

The program will have to be reinstalled.

Report It

Most all programs need registry entries that tell the program where to find the DLLs it needs and other important information, without this it can't run. Report It

Just get a cat5 cable, and network the two. And this site will help you if you have trouble. Hope this helps!

Do you have the XP disk?

You can run the Files and Settings transfer wizard from the cd, on the W2K machine.

Is the program already installed on the 2K machine or is the actuall install program that you want to move?

You might be able to swap files between them if they both have an infra red port on the side
connect the two computer together with a usb cable and go to file transfer wizard
