Windows xp start up?

when I start my computer give me two options: windows xp home and windows xp pro. , how I can cancel this message and start my computer directly with windows xp pro.

Windows xp start up?microsoft flight simulator

uninstall the home version

Windows xp start up?windows 2000 internet explorer

u should delete ur "xp home" so u dont have to choose that.
Select "My Computer" right click to properties -%26gt;startup ... then u'll find a dialog having one combobox with you "pro" selected. look for a button labeled "edit" or advanced or something like that . choose that n u'll be dropped in an editor(same as notepad). Completely select the line corresponding to the os that u dont want to use and delete.... save and restart...
OK-

Obviously, you have both operating systems loaded on your machine. What we have to do is to make XP Pro the default...

First, boot into XP Pro---Then,

Click "Start", "Run" and type "msconfig" without the quotes. Click OK. This will bring up the System Configuration Utility. Click the "Boot.ini" tab. In the top window, depending on your system, you will see a line something like this:

multi(x)disk(x)rdisk(x)partition(x)Win... Windows XP Professional'/blah blah blah, where the "x's" are numbers (including 0), and the blah blah blah aren't important. Highlight this line, and then click "Set as Default". Click "Apply", then OK, and then reboot your PC. It should automatically boot into Pro.

Windows XP repair keeps restarting?

I just started a windows xp repair procedure.

E.G. Boot from windows xp pro cd. press enter and let it find an installation of xp on the main harddrive then press R to repair.

After I thought it was complete.. i took out the cd then it came to the screen that comes up when you're installing windows then asked for the cd so I put it back in.

So it said 39 minutes for installation to complete. I waited and it gets to about 37 mins then stays there for a while and the text that tells u about what windows offers still changes then the progress bar starts to move again and the minutes go down.

Then the pc restarts like its completed the repair then goes on like its going to boot into windows like it normally does then comes to a screen that says windows setup is restarting. Then goe's back to the screen I mentioned above and keeps doing it.

What could the problem be? External harddrives and USB sticks that I've connected to the pc?

Windows XP repair keeps restarting?microsoft sql server

It sounds like your Windows image is pooched. You might have to start over with a clean install. However, I always disconnect external drives when doing systems work like this.

Windows XP repair keeps restarting?windows themes internet explorer

To repair windows XP boot your computer from the Boot able XP CD(mean put the CD drive above the Hard disk in booting order), and first check the BIOS is set to boot from the CD then insert the windows XP CD and boot your system.

When you see " To setup Windows XP now, press ENTER", go ahead and press ENTER

You will see here an option to repair Windows by pressing "R". Do not select this option - it will only take you to the Recovery Console, which is not what we want to do. Instead, choose to continue the installation

When you see the license agreement, press F8 to agree

On the next screen make sure your current XP installation is selected and then press "R" to repair XP

At this point XP will begin to install on top of itself, replacing damaged, missing or altered system files. Follow the instructions on the remaining screens to complete the Repair Install.

How many gigs necessary to run both xp pro and linux at the same time?

if i wished to try linux, what would i do since i run windows xp pro on one machine and home edition on another with a small wireless network?

1. how many total gigs must i have to run both operating systems?

2. where can i learn how to partition my hard drive to run windows xp pro as well as linux on just the more powerful machine, the desktop?

3. if i run both xp pro and linux, what will happen to the user of the laptop that only runs windows xp home edition?

fyi: i am administrator on both machines. my friend is only a limited xp user. i cannot allow her to be an administrator.

i only want to find out why so many people are now talking about going to linux and quitting microsoft windows.

so therefore, my purpose is for testing.

4. what browsers work well with linux?

5. do you get viri as much as you can on wins xp as linux and why? or why not?

6. do you need a firewall with linux?

7. can you make your current software work with linux without writing code?

How many gigs necessary to run both xp pro and linux at the same time?microsoft downloads

Here you go:

http://www.lifehack.org/articles/technol...

This will take you step by step to running windows and linux

1. You will need at least 1gb ram - 2 is better

2. is in the above link

3. The laptop user will see the windows device *and* any linux enabled PC compatible services like "Samba" disk sharing

4. Firefox works fine with Linux

5. More virus' on Windows by far, it's a juicier target

6. Yes you need a firewall with linux, I'm sure there's one for it

7. You cannot run windows programs on linux - they would have to be (minimally) recompiled to run natively on linux (without an emulator)

How many gigs necessary to run both xp pro and linux at the same time?microsoft word 2003 internet explorer

1. Linux is known to run on machines with 400mb hard disk space and 4mb memory. So as far as 'gigs' are concerned linux is really lightweight.

2. Use any search engine , more over read the installation HOWTO's on http://tldp.org.

3. Not a very clear question , if you install linux on machine A, it can in no way affect machineB, linux is great but it does not have any magical powers. As far as access control, linux is much more secure for multiple users with their individual home directories. Only the 'root' can make system wide changes.

4. mozilla, firefox - most common there are hundred's of browsers for linux all you have to do is search the internet.

5. Linux is designed that a program can only read or write files of the user who runs the program. So viruses can do system wide damages only if you run untrusted programs as 'root'

6. Depends on the environment

7. What is 'current software' ? Programs written for windows will work with linux(with an emulator 'wine'). Tens of thousands of programs are available for linux which cover most needs . look up freshmeat.net, gnu fsf directory or sourceforge.net
I believe what you want is called a "dual boot" system. I would recommend at least a 40 GB drive for that. Here is a dual-boot how-to article http://www.linuxboards.org/showthread.ph...
I wouldnt change it could cause errors and not help ur machine run right and folders files will be mixed up all over place and u will lose memory and hard drives wont work well

Installing Windows XP need help! you really have to know what your doing to answer this?

I I have been installing Windows XP home edition on my new computer that i just built...when i get to about 35 minutes left the screen goes blue and says irql less or not equal.. i believe my problem is that i have been installing windows with a disc that is only made for my gateway computer and is Service Pack 1. Then i found my windows xp pro disc that can be used for any computer. However, whenever i put the pro disc in, it just tries to resume the home edition installation and prompts me for the home disc. Is there anyway i can revert this and try to go back to starting over and try to install pro? whenever i put my home disc in before it will resume installation it will say press any key to boot from CD and i can start it all over .

Do i need to do anything in the BIOS to make the CD autorun because it is burned and if i do then how do i get to the BIOS nothing showsme how to get to the BIOS please help thanks

Installing Windows XP need help! you really have to know what your doing to answer this?microsoft xp

Sounds like your burned CD isn't bootable. This is evident that it resumes the Home install (which runs from the HDD whenever you see the "minutes remaining" type interface). Best bet, try to get a bootable install CD.

Installing Windows XP need help! you really have to know what your doing to answer this?download windows xp internet explorer

1. check your cd rom if it's okay. then, proceed to 2.

2. check your cd if the copy is bootable. the cd itself will tell you if it's bootable or not (a burned copy is not recommended, unless you know how to make a bootable copy out of your burned cd.)

3. upon startup, go to setup (del or f7, or whatever may be shown on your screen) .

4. check your boot sequence. make sure your first boot device is CD-ROM

5. insert cd.

6. restart pc

7. do nothing. let your pc read the cd.
Personally, I would reformat the drive with ntfs and get a fresh new copy of windows sp2 or the pro and register it
"irql less or not equal error" during Windows installation usually indicates faulty RAM.

http://www.technibble.com/how-to-diagnos...

If your machine boots from the Win XP Home installation disc, but not the Professional install disc, I would suggest the latter is not a bootable disc. Have you tried it in another machine?
couldnt answer you last night cos yahoo stopped me.

you cant put on win xp cos win home edition is newer so it will stop you ..so you have to get to your bios try f2 f6 f8 or delete it should tell you when ur pc boots up you know if you prob cleaned ur cd xp home you can just pick up where it stopped it happened to me but as i was saying when you get into ur bios set 1st boot to cd rom 2nd to h/drive. put in xp pro and it will format ur h/drive and will install

HELP!!!!! trouble reinstalling windows xp?

Here goes: I had several virus and maleware problems so i went out and bought a reinstallation dvd for windows xp media center (yes i have a dell media center pc). So i started the reinstallation process then about half way through i realize that although the dvd says media center, it seems to be installing windows xp pro. So now, i cant get back to media center or finish the installation process of pro because "the signature for windows XP Pro upgrade is invalid. The error code is 426." Meaning my code doesnt match up because its for media center not pro. It just keeps restarting trying to finish the setup but it cant. Did i do something wrong or was the dvd misprinted? HELP! :(

Difference Between Xp Home, Xp Pro, and Xp Media Center!?

I need to know what is the difference between..

Windows Xp Home

Windows Xp Media Center

and...

Windows Xp Pro!!

If you can please help me out i really need to know the difference and as well i will also like to know where i can find out this info @! thank You!!

Difference Between Xp Home, Xp Pro, and Xp Media Center!?microsoft frontpage

You can buy XP Home and XP Pro in boxes, but XP Media Center Edition (MCE) comes from the factory on certain laptops/dekstops that meet standards for picture playing and the like.

MCE is the newest of the bunch and has some nice features that are integrated together, but its not really excellent at any of them.

Pro is sometimes needed for higher level programs because some computer programs need it to run, but its not really worth it unless you know what you're doing with computers.

Home is the more basic version sold to your average consumer.

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/defau...

Difference Between Xp Home, Xp Pro, and Xp Media Center!?windows vista home premium internet explorer

xp home, is xp home, xp media center is the same as xp pro it just has some cheap media extras, xp pro allows you to run more than one cpu like if you were going to run more than two cpus at once and xp pro allows file encryption, theres probably a few more small things but not much, xp home is good enough unless you need pro for something.
well xp home doesnt have a lots of features that windows xp has like business tools and stuff, but xp professional has all the features xp home has but has a few additional things for office work, and windows xp media center edition is just windows xp professional but it has a extra program installed called microsoft pluss digital media edition and microsoft plus, and these programs allow you to apply more skins to your windows, and windows media player and allow you to download more skins, plus it has dancing character that dance on your screen and has software for converting audio formats and also allows printing cd labels, and has lots of screen savers..the choice is yours but i would recommend you get a copy of windows xp media center.

im sure you can find more info at http://microsoft.com/

theres information about all windows versions there that have been release and that will be released...i hope i helped you some way...take care i hope you find what your looking for...

Does Windows XP Professional support 4 gigs of ram?

I am a 3D artist/compositer I am will get a new computer and I am not sure if I should use Windows XP Pro or Windows XP pro 64 bit. I use Maya, Soft Image/XSI, Adobe Premiere CS3, After Effects, and Combustion 2008. I also like to play FPS games once in a while. My computer specs are: CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad, DDR2 4G, Motherboard: ECS intel chip G33T-M2, GeForce 8800 GT-512M, 500G hard drive and DVD RW. Will Win XP Pro take advantage of my 4 Gigs of RAM?

Does Windows XP Professional support 4 gigs of ram?microsoft support

In a word, no. XP can ADDRESS a maximum of 4 GB of RAM, but that address space also includes all onboard PCI devices, such as your video card. In order to be able to talk to those devices, XP must ignore the upper 512 MB of your 4 GB of RAM.

To map the PCI devices above the 4 GB mark, and be able to use all of the RAM, you must have both a 64-bit operating system / processor and a 64-bit chipset.

Does Windows XP Professional support 4 gigs of ram?windows live mail internet explorer

It will - this is generally a question more of 'will my motherboard support it?' than 'will my OS support it?'
Yes Windows has all the drivers.
It will, or should be pretty fast and put it to efficient use. I would say you got a pretty good setup, nothing to worry about.
Yes it does. When you get into XP 64bit then you can add even more ram. The problem with xp-64bit is its stil not friendly with all drivers and programs. Its risky switching to 64bit windows, it does support most programs and drivers but there is a chance it might not accept a game or program so its up to you. If you do upgrade to 64bit windows you can run 8gigs of ram depending on your motherboard.
Only x64 will support 4gb of RAM. 32bit windows only supports 3.5
No

A 32 bit os will only register 3.5 gigs of ram at the most to take advantage of the full 4 gigs you will need a 64 bit os. I dont recomend vista though because the extra half gig you will get will be lost to vista being VERY ram hungry. I would get xp pro 64
Yep i agree with Ben, plus XP will only go to 4GB max, anything over that is totally wasted and can even cause crashing and unexpected behaviour.

I'm pretty sure Vista allows higher RAM capacity? Not sure, but considering how much RAM it actually uses, i would think the limit would get bumped from 4GB to 6GB or something along those lines. As i said, not sure - you're better off doing some research, Your hardward sounds like it would easily cope with that much RAM so i wouldnt worry about that.
Nope. Generally this limit is around 3 GB total, because one of the bits is reserved for use when addressing memory. Applications are limited to 2 GB total, but thanks to some clever technology, each application "thinks" it has infinite memory (in reality, each has its own 2GB ceiling, but that's a lot for one application, so it might as well be infinite). You may hear about this switch you can do to increase this limit, but it will change the way your PC performs and can degrade performance. I don't recommend doing it. 3 GB is a lot. Going 64 bit allows you to use several terabytes, but usually to get similar performance on a 64 bit machine you have to double the amount of memory, so if you were using 3 GB on 32 bit machines, a 64 bit machine would need 6 GB to guarantee similar performance when memory pressure increases.

XP Pro Product Key?

Good day. I have a legit product ID Key for windows XP Pro. I got this key from my old original XP Pro cd but it is damaged hence i cant use it. I borrowed a copy of a XP cd a friend gave me and he told me since it is counterfeit, change the product key. I try to change the key to my legit one under the "activate windows" wizard but it is not changing? Keeps telling me key was typed incorrectly and it is not incorrect cause is a print out from the program which gave me the key on my computer. This is the program:

Codes are vaild with certain media.

Meaning that you cannot use an OEM key code with a Retail or Volume Edition CD. Also if your code if an upgrade code you cannot use any full edition CD it must be an upgrade edition.

If you have a major manufacturer system (DELL, COMPAQ, IBM) you will require OEM CD.

Some clone builders will sell you OEM as well. (Equus, Systemax.)

If you built your system it more than likely was a retail edition or upgrade.

Volume License require select membership with Microsoft.

Also since this is off your old system it the key was distributed to multiple pc and activated microsoft will put the code on the pirated list.

Multiple PC's CANNOT use the same key unless they're volume licensed.

You could try to call MS but since it was licensed to your old PC and if your license was OEM you cannot use the key on any other systems (OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer).

If it was retail and your replacing the system because a component failed (like motherboard) they will allow re-activation.

Good Luck.

XP Pro Product Key?ie internet explorer

Try calling Microsoft. If that doesn't work, call the PC manufacturer (e.g. Dell, HP). If that doesn't work, install Kubuntu Linux ;-)
Use this link to contact Microsoft. If your CD is damaged beyond use and you have the key code, they will replace the CD after verifying it. The key cracker site you have will not give you a legitimate code for your CD.

Installing windows XP on a laptop with a SATA hard disk?

Hello,

I want to re-install windows on my new HP DV2197 latop (as it came with a XP Home and I want to upgrade it to XP PRO) as I like a clean machine, but when I booted from my windows XP Pro CD it gave me a message that there is no drive installed on the computer, apperantly Windows XP PRO can not install on a SATA hard drive.

Any suggestions

Installing windows XP on a laptop with a SATA hard disk?microsoft windows xp

In order for XP to see the SATA drive, you need to install the 3rd party driver for the chipset (Southbridge) that controls the SATA. Since it is an HP laptop, you should go to the HP website and download the chipset drivers and put them on a floppy. Then when you install XP and it see no drive, it should ask if you want to install 3rd party drivers.

That's strange. Did you put in the CD after logging into your Win2k or you try to boot it when your PC restart?

You should try and put in the CD after you got into Win2k. It will prompt you to restart and everything should be automated after that. I've done upgrading from Win98 and Win2k before. Not hard at all.
two ways to do this

one. start up your computer normaly and once at your desktop insert the disk and follow the prompts

two. when your computer is loading bring you the boot menu (usally the f8 key) and select boot from cd option and then it should start the install process

if this doesnt work you have to email microsoft and get them to identify the problem
A Win XP CD which is an upgrade is supposed to work if you install it over the previous version of OS (Windows 98 in your case).

It may not install by itself, although in some cases it does if you create a Windows 98 installation directory structure (using a DOS floppy and booting with it or booting using your Win 98 SE CD).

The easy way out is to get Win XP service pack 2 CD which supports a standalone installation.

Installing Windows XP On More Than One Machine at Once -- Please Help!!!?

Okay, so I have a friend that has a Sony Laptop, and he has the product key on the bottom of it.

Now, from experience, I know that when you try to install Windows XP From one cd Twice, it will not let you.

Now, you may be asking: Why would just doing it once work?

Well, My laptop's hard drive went *BOOM* Well, not BOOM, but it went out, so we had to re-install XP on it.

Now: I have a Windows XP Pro that wasn't working, so we formatted the drive, and it has XP Home on it now.

So, I need to find out if when you install Windows XP on a machine, while the original sony's installation is still in use, will the primary computer still be able to download updates, and be under full warranty, even after its activation key is used on another computer!

If you can please tell me, from past eXPerience ;-) or, if you know by being a past worker of Microsoft, then please leave me an answer:

Hey, What's to lose!!

You get points for answering, and I get an answer!

Windows Xp Home upgrade to Windows XP Professional?

I bought a new computer with Windows Xp Home in it(service pack2). My question is i have a Windows XP pro upgrade disk i bought couple years back and cannot use. When i put the cd in to install it says that i aready have a newer version of Windows installed? I beleive this is because the upgrade disk is older than Service pack 2. Is there anyway around this such as uninstalling Service pack 2 temporarily? Any suggestions? Thank you.

if you just install or update the sp2 on your home after you buy it go to add/remove program and uninstall the windows sp2.

but if your home edition is installed with build in sp2, i think you cannot do anything.

Windows Xp Home upgrade to Windows XP Professional?ies internet explorer

Buy Windows Vista, it's much better
The upgrade disc upgrades from Win98/ 2000/ME. So you are best formating and installing the upgrade from there. No need to install win 98, as part of the process of XPs setup is to prompt for a win98 CD.

To be honest its probably not worth the effort, professional edition just has a few extras for office/networking.

I'm very suprised that your 'new' computer has XP on it at all. Most have Vista these days, so you could have bought old stock...

Why doesn't Windows XP run right on some systems sent with/made for Vista??

I've read about 'some' PC manufacturers including a copy of the Windows XP Pro restore cd when they ship out a computer with Vista on it. (You'd have to pay $15 or $20 extra.. and only a few manufacturers did it.. but still.) So I'm guessing it's completely possible for XP to run on some Vista systems... otherwise, there'd be no reason for'em to send out a restore/recovery cd for XP Pro with Vista.

But why is it that many systems that come with Vista on'em won't run XP right?

Like, some people have said they can't even get XP installed on Vista systems.. others don't recommend it.. and I myself have problems with it.

1: My onboard graphics and sound didnt work right (even with correct drivers, that SAID they would work with XP also). So I got a new sound card (was goin to anyway, but still) and a new graphics card as well.

2: Although it happened with Vista, it's happened more in XP on the same system. BLUESCREEN OF DEATH...

soo, yeah. why is it that xp dont like vista systems??.

Why doesn't Windows XP run right on some systems sent with/made for Vista??microsoft word download

Hi, well those manufacturer's that do give out xp cd's may have been using hardware that xp supports or could have managed to build custom drivers for them. Many new hardware manufacturer's only design drivers for Vista since its newer and also because Xp is older so they don't see the need to support it anymore. Vista is way better than Xp.

I hope I helped.

Good Luck!

How do I import Windows XP from one pc to another?

We have two computers.

Computer "A" has Windows 98 SE installed.

Computer "B" has Windows XP Pro installed.

*I do NOT have the Windows XP Pro installation CD.

*I do, however, have the COA Product Key for the Win XP Pro that is already installed on computer "B."

I am so sick of computer A using ancient Win 98SE!!!

Is there any way I can import or copy Windows XP Pro directly from computer "B" to computer "A" via some type of direct connection, e.g. USB cable?

nope. you'll have to install the OS you can't just "import" it.
short answer: You can't. XP must be installed, not just be there. You will need a disk.
No, not only is this illegal it is next to impossible. Pay for a upgrade, it will cost you $100 max, or if you are too cheap to pay for a legal copy then download some varient of Linux, openSuse is a great product.

Windows XP Professional ISO?

I have a Genuine Windows XP Pro Key, and need to reinstall windows XP, I do not want to download the ISO from a torrent site, as I do not trust the software on those sites to not have SOMETHING missing. I need to re-install windows XP pro on one of my computers, and do not want buy yet another copy as I have bought 4 copies in 5 years for this exact reason. Anyone know where I can download the retail version that is an un-adulterated copy? NO I will not use Linux as I am not interested in learning a new filing system, and HELL no I will not use Vista.

Not wishing to learn Linux is your loss, if it is the complexity you are concerned about, its easy.

Check out Ubuntu 7.10 :

Try not to dismiss it so readily, there is massive support online, and everything is free, so if you dont get on with it you can ditch it.

You won't find any genuine ISO images of XP, you're smart by not downloading a modified ISO using torrent software; they are always messed up with components or very faulty; God knows what people do nowadays to good software;

Your best bet is to look on craig's list/amazon/ebay for a cheap deal or maybe ask a friend? I'd go with asking a friend; a co-worker or so.
ghost image or such thing should help you. Its been ages I used Windows.. so couldn't point to a tool with certainty..

Using Linux means you begin to use your rights under your freedom. Using Windows means unconditionally surrenderring your rights that your freedom provides you with.

So not using Linux won't put Linux at a loss, it will put you at a loss.

Consider using Linux and come up with questions. There are many of us here eager to help in that direction. Besides there are many forums, mailing lists, chat channels and such to help you with your problems.

Good that you chose not to use Vista.

Formating Windows XP?

This is what i am trying to do. I want to format windows XP pro from a lap top. I have neither a floppy drive for it or the XP pro disk as i have bought this from a friend. I know you can use the windows 98 boot disk to format it (done it once before but forgot how) what i need is someone to show me how to do this and give me a link to a 98 boot disk i can put onto a CD instead of floppy, also if anyone has a good step by step guide of how to do the 98 method of formatting a XP computer please post that also. Thanks ahead of time!

Yes you could put it on a bootable CD.

give us a little more info because I don't want to cause you to do something you don't want.

Format = ERASE EVERYTHING

So you want to erase everything on your hard drive? Do you want to reinstall Windows afterwards? If you want to reinstall Windows afterwards, you need a real Windows CD, not one of those recovery CDs.

You could take the hard drive out of the laptop and stick it in a desktop computer and format it from there (though you might need an adapter). I've done this before.

Formating Windows XP?microsoft internet explorer

If the computer is currently running Windows XP and you want to install an older version of windows (Like 98) you cannto simply "format" the drive. You must delete the partition. Windows XP partitions use a file system called "NTFS" but windows 98 uses FAT or FAT32. If you can still use the computer that has XP - just put a floppy disk in the computer. Go to "My Computer" and right click the floppy drive - and choose format. Then choose the "Create MS-DOS Startup Disk" box, and format the floppy. Then you can use the floppy similarly to a 98 boot floppy.
you can go to bootdisk.com and download the exe file to make a bootable cd that is like the floppy, and the fdisk and format if you want to wipe out everthing. or you can get an external floppy drive and use a floppy disk

you can go here to learn how to do ithttp://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=31334...

Well, you're going to need three separate hard-drive partitions, each with a different file system. It's not easy to explain and is going to take hours of research and practice. Have fun!
u can use linux and windows together but u can't use mac and win together .. because windows support own hardware that mac don't support windows hardware.

there are a few hardware support win and mac..

to use linux and win , u most first install linux then install windows

if u already install win and don't uninstall win use "VIRTUAL PC"

VIRTUAL PC is simplest way to install many OS on one PC

Gamers.... Windows XP or Vista?

I am building a new high end gaming computer. I play a lot of First Person Shooters both single player and via the internet in multi-player.

I currently have been using Windows XP Pro on my system and I know it and love it. What should I do with the new system, go with XP Pro again or “upgrade” to Vista?

I am looking at Vista Ultimate 64. Will my games I love still work (Battle Field series, Half Life, DOOM and the likes, as well as WOW for MMORPG) or should I just stick with XP Pro a while longer until all the bugs are worked out of Vista?

The system I am building will be:

1000 watt power supply

Intel Quad Core Q6600 2.4 processor, over clocked

Nvida 680i core 2 quad mother board

4 GB DDR2, 1066MHZ, dual channel RAM

2 X, Nvida Gforce 8800 GTZ, 768 MB, video cards

Creative Labs Sound Blaster, X-Fi Xtreame Gamer sound card

Any and all detailed information and of course Gamer opinions are welcomed!

Gamers.... Windows XP or Vista?ie 6

Standard 32bit Windows XP, 64bit offers no performance advantages, and makes playing old DOS games much harder.

Stick with XP, less clutter, more speed.

And Finally, using SLi with two GTXs is rather expensive and unnecessary, you'd be better off spending the extra money on getting an extreme version of your CPU.

I am trying to back up a 3 GB Outlook file with XP Pro - can windows chop the file up for my 700MB C

NO but you can try to use winrar to make it smaller, but it will never compress that far down. Why not load it back into Outlook and resave as 3 or 4 smaller PST files?

Are you leaving it on a network? That is a lot of emails 3GB.. I mean I have a PST file for 1GB but that spans 2 years of sent, Inbox etc...

I would keep the most recent stuff on the PC and then just keep the others close by on a CD.

One thing you may consider is also a DVD burner you can burn up to 4GB on a DVD.

tried to email yoiu back but email is not confirmed yet.

Yes, WINRAR for file compression, will chop it in chunks if you want.

It won't compress it enough to fit on 1 CD, but when you set it up to compress you can have it break it up in to any size chunks you want. Outlook is already a very compressed file so this won't shrink it much but will split it up.

You can even assign a password, BUT DO NOT FORGET THE PASSWORD. Write it down and place in a safety deposit box, or a safe.

Windows xp new computer?

I have windows xp pro, and I'm building a new pc. Can I use the same windows xp cd for my new pc? It's basically a new computer, but the cdkey is mine?

Windows xp new computer?microsoft updates

Legally, as long as you remove it from your previous computer, you can reinstall it on your new computer.

According to your Microsoft Rental Agreement (remember, you don't own that version of XP, you only have a license to 'use' it. It still belongs to BillyG), you are only allowed to use that on one computer.

You will have to re-register it when you reinstall it on your new computer and let them know that it's not being used on your old computer. Remember, Microsoft keeps track of all the hardware that is in your computer.

That's the price you pay (on top of paying for the rental of the operating system) to run Windoze.

You really should give Linux a try.

it is your, if you don't have same copy of xp in 2 computer, i don't see a problem.

you can still use Microsoft update service as usual.
Yup
yes, it's ok.. as many computers as you want, as long as you will never connect it to internet..

only one should be connected to internet, the one you choose to be a licensed computer..

but, it is the Microsoft's policy: one Licensed OS (operating system) in one computer..
Microsoft allows a copy of OS to be reloaded 5 times before it will not activate the key.

But if your trying to put both computer online same key chances are will not work, not with out some extra work.

if you take old system off line and install on new and by chance will not let you install key call Microsoft explain system failed and you are reloading everything on new system and need new key, they will give you one.
Hi!---i think its OK--follow SM J s advice and uncheck the automatically update option and you should be OK---if you are connected to the internet dont let Win Xp Pro phone home!cheers!

Windows XP installation showing smaller unpartioned space?

Hello, I am attempting to install windows XP pro/no service pack on my new PC. During the installation sequence the program ask you where you want to install windows XP. The only problem is the unpartioned space is showing only 131069 MB when it should be showing 250 GBs as that is what I bought from Western Digital. Why is the unpartitioned space showing almost 100 Gigs less than than it should be? (There are no other partitions listed)

Windows XP installation showing smaller unpartioned space?windows media

You have to format with software that is included with your hard drive. Anything over 136 gb have to do this. REgards.

Windows XP installation showing smaller unpartioned space?microsoft exchange internet explorer

hmmmm.....is this a clean install : formatting first to overwrite all the original disk space? rootkits sometimes create a 'hidden' sector...but if you still have doubts, try 'boot and nuke' disk cleaner/overwriter. caution; this will overwrite everthing on the harddrive. you must have the windows install disk, w/prod. key. etc. or you are screwed. get b%26amp;n from 'majorgeeks.com' freeware.
Some motherboards don't support large hard drives and are capped at; I think its 137Gb approx, you may need to look your motherboard spec and see if there is any updated bios supporting larger hard drives.

Considering what you can see and what you have it looks like this is the case.

You could try using partition magic to see if you can resize your partitions and create a second partition on each drive to claim the remainder.

See source below for details of this problem
set the BIOS on you comuter to Auto swich of computer check size in BIOS at reboot if stil same size switch on smart drive cabable in Bios if still incorrect size format disk from XP install disk to delete your small partion install XP on the partion size now available a correct install uses about 8mb of your dik capacity which is used as a ram drive to install choose chage file system to NTFS your XP should install correctly then you should have a floppy disk with your har drive from western digital which allows you to reset your drive size if your BIOS only supprts 1025 cylinders you can download a drive manger program from ontrack which makes your BIOS think your drive is 1024 but shows full capacity to your operating system if you do not have the WD floppy you canusually get a download from WD webste Hope I have been of some help to you I can email you the prog if you like Data Life Guard Tools which is the WD Floppy also check the drive jumper is not set to 33gb limit

Can't reinstall Windows XP?? Help?

Something messed my computer up a few days ago (can't boot or reach XP logo/ Pressing F8 won't work / tried a floppy disk boot but it failed), so I decided to reinstall Windows XP. When I put in the CD and the computer does all the reading, I'm brought up to a blue screen that asks if I want to reinstall Windows XP (Pro), restore the computer, or quit the setup.

When I choose to reinstall and agree to the terms, I get 4 slots that say Unknown Disk or something. I'm suppose to choose a slot, create a partition, or delete a partition, but choosing any brings me to another blue screen that says error and stop. And if I choose restore the computer and type fixboot or fixmdr, it says it cannot find the drive (even C:\).

Any idea on how to fix my reinstalling problem? Or maybe fix my boot problem? Thanks a lot for any help.

Sounds like the hard drive is now shot...you need to get another one.

Just because it's new means nothing!!!

When I bought a new Gateway computer, I had 4 hard drives go bad on me within 6 months!!!

So if it's still on warranty send it back to them and get a new one.
Sounds like a hard drive problem.

If you are using a non-standard hard drive setup you may need to install custom drivers, otherwise WinXP won't be able to write to the drive(s).

If you have a standard hard drive setup, the hard drive may be faulty.
not positive, but it may be possible that the information for what you're trying to do isn't legible on the cd, perhaps try a different one?
Could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software . This problem can be solved by uninstalling new softwares, updating device drivers and making minor configuration changes . From http://fixit.in/bluescreenofdeath.html

Can I cancel my Windows XP installation?

I booted off of my Windows XP Pro CD to get to the Recovery Console with the intent of going to a command prompt. I ended up inadvertently starting a Windows XP setup. After the setup said it was copying files to an installation folder, it rebooted the computer. I removed the installation CD just after the reboot to try to stop the reinstallation. Now, the computer boots to a setup screen every time (the one saying XX minutes remaining) and asks me to insert the setup CD. I cannot get to safe mode since I get a message saying that Windows XP setup cannot be run in safe mode.

At this point, would Windows still be intact if the installation were cancelled at this point? Or is my only option to continue with the reinstallation? If I can cancel and have Windows just the way it was an hour ago, please let me know.

Thanks for your help.

Need some advice on Microsoft Windows XP activation hack.?

Hello, I'm stuck with some windows xp pro activation issue.

Basically, I bought this complete POS system from a canadian company. They went bust and I'm stuck with $15,000 system running on XP pro.

To make a long story short, I've bought a backup motherboard with exact identical model and trying to produce a backup system just in case the primary POS server kicks the bucket.

I'm using a software called Veritas Simple Backup to come up with the disk image on a writable DVD. I've managed to figure out how to restore the DVD image on to the backup system. However, when I boot the backup box, it goes directly in to the windows activation page.

I've called Microsoft and they said I have to contact the POS manufacturer since they hold the license key for the XP pro. I'm really screwed at this point.

Has anyone got any useful advise?

FYI: I've tried Norton Ghost and it gives me the same deal. Just goes directly to the activation page.

Downgrade from Windows Vista Ultimate to XP Pro SP1, without doing a clean install?microsoft works

**********************************

EDIT:

Did you install all of the drivers?

**********************************

You can't downgrade

You have no choice but to do a clean install

Just back up all your data to CDs or something

Sorry, I know that's probably not what you wanted to hear

It'd be a bit of a pain, but I do have an idea:

-Right-click "My Computer" and choose "Manage"

-Go to "Disk Management"

-Inside "Disk Management" right click your C: drive and choose "Shrink"

-Shrink it by about half. Now the space you shrunk will become "unpartitioned" space.

-Right-click the "unpartitioned space" and choose "Create new volume"

-Make the "new volume" use all of the "unpartitioned space" and format it as NTFS

-Now boot from the XP CD, and install it to the "new volume" you just created.

-Once XP is installed, copy all of your files to the "volume" where you installed XP.

-After you have copied all of your files, make a Gparted live CD:

http://download.tuxfamily.org/gpartedliv...

-Boot from the Gparted live Cd and DELETE the old Vista partition.

-Now right-click the XP partition and choose "Resize"

- Now resize the XP partition so it uses the whole hard drive.

-Now just reboot and you will have successfully gotten rid of Vista without losing data.

why do u want to downdrade back 2 XP? i have 2 vista prenium laptops that i was planning to downgrade but vista runns better than XP. Thats cuz i'm running Vista's SP1.

well try calling a pc shop and ask how you can do that
I don't know about all this,I hate vista too,so I will be watching the answers you get.I get nothing but problems with this Vista.
I would have to agree with you, I wouldn't want Vista either. You may want to turn off your computer and boot from the disc instead of just installing it. You do need to do a clean install, obviously an upgrade is not going to work. Try it, keep me posted. Oh, and alot of files that you had on your computer for drivers and stuff will be gone if you do this, so I would get all the drivers for all the internal components and internet service first before doing this. Good luck.
You cant downgrade, you must do a fresh install.
What? Do you really think Microsoft would make it easy for you?

Try booting with the XP disk in the computer and make sure that your boot order has the cdrom first.

If that doesn't work, go into your MBR (master boot record) and change the parameters back to xp. Careful on this one because if you mess this up, it can make your disk inoperable unless you have Linux to rescue it.
You could look into dual booting it-

http://apcmag.com/5485/dualbooting_vista...

You could also partition your disks, dump your data onto your second partion and reload XP or if you have a second harddrive, you could put it in as a slave, dump your data onto it and then reload your original HD with XP.
Sorry, you don't really have any options. Downgrading isn't supported. You have to format your drive and rewrite the boot record to install XP.
It can't be done.

Slide the bar until you get to 1024x768

Clcik on apply...you screen will flicker and change the size of everything.

It will ask if it is what you want to keep...Click yes or no...if no...try a different resolution...if yes...click on OK...

if not try changing theme
go into settings and make it smaller.

in control panel%26gt; display%26gt;appearance%26gt;then it will say windows and buttons and you can take it from there
I would like to know what resolution you are running, but try this:

right click on the taskbar, click properties. click the start menu, and whichever menu you have selected, click customize. under general, you can select small or large icons.

Reinstalling Windows XP?

My computer has become so full of junk trying to take things over that the mouse has begun beating up my cat so it is time to reinstall.

I am using Windows XP Pro.

I tried putting the disc in while Windows is running. Click "Install Windows" and I get "The installed version of Windows is newer then the version on the disc"

So I tried rebooting hoping for a prompt to load from the CD but instead it simply loads Windows again.

I tried Microsoft's site but they seem pretty useless to. All they want me to do is reboot and hit space at the prompt that never shows up.

Anyone know how to boot from the CD?

Reinstalling Windows XP?windows explorer

You were right to attempt to load the CD at boot-time, however as it seems the boot sequence is incorrectly configured to read from the Hard Drive first. Enter the BIOS (the key to be pressed is usually shown while the computer is starting up)... Once there check for something called 'Boot Sequence', 'Boot Priority' or similar and alter the values to set the CD / DVD-ROM drive before the Hard Disk in priority this is so as to first attempt to read from the CD / DVD if any data is present. This should allow the computer to detect the CD of Windows and will allow you to reinstall. If you have anymore questions please do not hesitate to ask :)

If your downgrade was successful, check your hard ware settings in the device manager in system which is in the control panel.

Find your network card and see if there is an exclamation point or red x on it, if there isn't then your device should be working properly.

To determine for sure, go start run then type cmd hit enter. Then type ping 127.0.0.1, this is a loop feedback for the network card, if it is successful then your card is working.

Now you need to check your TCP/IP settings, right click on your network connection and go to properties, make sure tcp/ip is in the list, go to properties and make sure it is all set for DHCP, once done you should go back to the network connection, right click on it and select repair, if it renews successfully, then open your browser and your home page should appear.

Good luck.

No worries, it will work for them too. you can activate more than once.
It doesn't matter what disks you used as long as you used your own product key to activate it. If you used their product key you have rendered their product key unusable by them. You cannot activate 2 computers connected to the internet at the same time. One of the computers will be flagged as not genuine.
You need to use YOUR product key to activate.

Of course, if your original key is for XP Home and you neighbor's disk was XP Pro, then you are SOL.

Are there things that I can disable to improve Vista's performance? Yes, I have taken away the pretties.

Please don't mention memory as I am more interested in the streamlining of Vista. Any memory upgrades will also improve XP's performance (probably more than Vista's)

Thanks for your advice in advance : )

Windows Vista %26amp; XP?windows server 2003

Hi there, a lot of Vista PCs come with McAfee anti-virus installed - yet McAfee is NOT compatible and will make it run slow. Friends of mine had this problem and uninstalling and changing to AVG made the PC IMMEDIATELY run at the correct speed.

A BT Engineer I know says this is a big problem yet still relatively little known. If yours came with McAfee, change it and see the difference.

Windows Vista %26amp; XP?windows xp service internet explorer

did it occur to you that perhaps you just need to get used to vista? im tired of everyone complaining about vista...such whiners
Just copy important documents onto a DVD or external hard drive then erase the hard drive and reinstall Windows XP. All my friends that have Vista complain and say it is the worst operating system in history next to ME, do yourself a favor and take it off of your computer. As far as I know this will not be fixed until SP1 or even SP2.

Windows XP Professional Product Key Help?microsoft exchange

windows XP is starting to reach its shelf life. back when it was initially released, MS decided to add in checks to prevent installing after a certain amount of time, or after a certain amount of reinstalls.

My suggestion is to begin thinking about using alternative operating systems, because microsoft is getting increasingly money-grubbing. i can forsee more problems like this coming along in the future.

As for your CD key, you may be able to call the help line, but the workers will usually assume that you've stolen their software. they will treat you like a pirate and most likely not help you. i suggest getting Unbuntu.

Windows XP Professional Product Key Help?windows vista ultimate internet explorer

you can use it forever. call the help line.
I think only Once... or its like in one PC
Call Microsoft - they'll help.
Same exact thing happened to me. Call Microsoft help line. The phone number should pop up on your screen. They will help you but plan on being on the phone for at least an hour. Took forrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrever!!!!

Late
I think you can only re-install XP after 90 day; however, just following the directions below to contact Microsoft.

If you just explain why you're re-installing, they will provide you with a product key for the current install you are trying to perform.

1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Activate Windows.

2. Click Yes, I want to telephone a customer service representative to activate Windows, and then click Next.

3. Click Change Product Key, type the new product key, and then click Update.

4. Click Telephone, and then follow the on-screen instructions to complete the activation process.
Go to Brian Carr's website (just Google serach him) and he will have about a dozen academic volume keys and one is certain wo work

Windoes xp pro password problem!?windows xp pro

If your computer came with XP preinstalled the product Key tag should be on the side or back panel of the Tower. If not, it should be on the box. If you don't have the box, you screwed yourself.

Asking for other members to provide you a product key is against the Community Guidelines. The reason, providing you with a product key is illegal.

Windoes xp pro password problem!?microsoft net framework internet explorer

i doubt someone would give u a free one
You have more problem then Carter has liver pills, first if you got the computer new then you have a sticker on the back or bottom with the Key, anyway if not then go to any computer store and they will sell you a key with the sticker for your computer and have them do a clean install using windows 8 in 1 so you get all the updates,,,,,

Windows xp wireless problems?

ok i have windows xp pro sp2 and my neighbor hosts his internet connection and allows me to use it. he also allows other neighbors to use it. my question is all these people can access the internet form both of his routers and my computer will say connected but i cant use the internet on my pc. but my girlfreinds computer that im using can connect. my computer will say connected on both routers but still no net. sometimes windows will pop up with another message saying "windows cannot find a certificate to log you on the network". i have tried to reinstall the wireless card and still nothing. plz help!!

Windows xp wireless problems?microsoft templates

It might be asking for the network key. It's a 10 digit key setup for WEP protection on the router....even though you're "connected" and have good signal, you still need the key. Try refreshing your connections and see if that helps...it should ask you for a key.

Windows xp wireless problems?windows firewall internet explorer

Your laptop might be trying to connect to someone else's laptop instead of the wifi router. You can go into Control Panel in windows and click on the Network Connections icon then right click on the Wireless Connection icon and this brings up the Wireless Connection Properties window. Select the wireless networks tab and it will show a list of preferred networks. You can highlight each network in the list that your laptop connects to automatically and remove it. Close out this window and go back to view wireless networks and refresh it until you see your neighbour's network and click on it to connect and enter the correct wep or wpa key your neighbours's router is using if he has encryption enabled.
That error message can pop up if you're running IEEE 802.1x authentication, but are not actually in a 802.1x (EAP) environment.

Please goto Start --%26gt; Programs --%26gt; Accessories --%26gt; Communications --%26gt; Network Connections --%26gt; Right-click your Connection and select Properties --%26gt; Click on the Authentication tab --%26gt; Disable / uncheck the option IEEE 802.1x authentication for this network. Now, try to connect to your Wireless network; are you able to? (Note: you may need to restart the computer.)

Windows XP stuck in safe mode??

right i just done a clean install of windows XP pro and every time i boot up it's stuck in safe mode..i tried selecting start windows normally and others but no luck..still in safe mode..the resolution is really low and it is in 4 bit colour too. i looked in device manager and i saw the "multimedia audio controller and video controller Vga compatiable" had a yellow exclamation thing next to them. any one know my problem here? how do i get out of safe mode and start windows normally? thanks for the help

Windows XP stuck in safe mode??windows xp professional

Did you install the driver for your video card after you reinstalled Windows? If not, your video will run in VGA [16 colors %26amp; 480 x 640].

If Windows can't find the proper video driver then it runs in VGA mode which looks like safe mode.

Do you have a driver disk from the manufacturer of the computer or video card. If so, install the video driver.

If you know the manufacturer and model of the card in your system go their web site and download the driver and install it.

Good luck!

Windows XP stuck in safe mode??windows xp home internet explorer

Are you sure your in safe mode. Sounds like you do not have your video card driver installed/configured properly. That's what the yellow question marks mean anyway. After you install them than you will be able to change the resolution and color bit rate.
Sounds like your graphicscard is broken down.

Try inserting another card for testing.
The yellow exclamation is a warning that something is not working properly with that audio visual.

Try turning off your computer completely, ..with the button .. not with the computer..do it manually.

Then before windows safe mode can come up, press f8 and hold it down .. you will hear a lot of clicking, that's not a problem, it's just bypassing windows again...but when it's forced to do that, it should give you more options to turn on windows without safe mode.. even if you have an audio visual conflict/problem, it still should start out of safe mode.

good luck

Reinstalling OEM Windows XP on a PC with Windows already on it.?

I would like to reinstall Windows without formatting the drive and erasing all the data. So I booted the PC from the OEM CD. When it comes time to do a Repair (R) without going to a command prompt, there is no option to do so.

To give you an idea of where I get to, visit: http://www.windowsxpprofessional.windows... . After pressing F8 to agree to install Windows, the next screen that I see does not match the next step (Part 2). On his computer, it ask me which drive (the HdD has been partioned into 3 hard drives) I would like to format to reinstall Windows. I know the steps are for a regular installation disc of Windows XP (Pro or Home) on this website, but is their another way with an OEM disc (anyone out there who may own OEM disc) to reinstall Windows without reformating and erasing all of the data/programs?

Thanks!

Reinstalling OEM Windows XP on a PC with Windows already on it.?windows mobile

By the sounds of it you may have an issue with your Master Boot Record. I assume the reason that you have not done the repair install from within Windows is because Windows doesn't boot. The fact that you are not getting a screen showing you where windows has been installed is also an indication of this.

I would suggest that you repair this by going into Recovery Console. Press "R" at the first oppertunity (the 4th screen shot in your link).

You will need to know "The Administrator" password for this, not just "An administrator."

Once in Recovery Console type the following.

FIXMBR

EXIT

The computer will then restart and may be bootable. If it is not, then you could also try going back into the Recovery Console and typing.

FIXBOOT

EXIT

Running ASP in Windows XP (IIS 5.1) vs Windows Server2003 (IIS6)?

Is there any different for running ASP in Windows XP IIS and Server2003 IIS ??? Please note that I just focus on comparison the server performance on these 2 systems and nothing compare about the .net performance.

So the most concerned question is that can I pay $1000 less to use Windows XP Pro. to host a ASP website which may have 100 people browse at the same time, can Windows XP supports ???

Running ASP in Windows XP (IIS 5.1) vs Windows Server2003 (IIS6)?windows mail

Yes you can host your ASP website on WIndows XP Pro hosting provided Server configuration must be Dual Core or above with minimum RAM 2GB. But if you are hosting ASP.Net website then go for Server 2003 for better .net Frameworks performance.

XP Pro on 2 computers??...?

I own a retail genuine version of Windows XP pro, am I allowed to install it on two PC's owned by myself in my own house?

XP Pro on 2 computers??...?microsoft zune

No, you're not "allowed" to, but that doesn't mean it's not possible...

; )

XP Pro on 2 computers??...?windows nt internet explorer

Yes if you purchased the Windows XP Pro legitimately.
I don't think so....you would have to obtain a further lincence from Microsoft.

No wonder Bill Gates lives in such a big house!!
no. one licence for one pc, if you try to register both microsoft will know!!
Nope you would need a site licence. The licence agreement will tell you what you can and cannot do with the software.
you can install xp on only 1 computer as it will only update to 1 p.c,if it finds 2 p.c,s with the same licence key,it will detect one as a copy and show the genuine microsoft notification

however ,i have tried it,and it seemed ok,i mean, who is going to buy a xp home install it on a p.c and then throw it away after 2 installs,if you get a new or 2nd hand p.c which needs xp you are gonna use your copy

heres one,i used a copy of xp i found on a rubbish tip,i managed to insatll it,update it,install service pack 2 ,and from what i have heard its still going strong,so anything is possible

once vista comes out,xp activation rules may change as the emphasis will be on vista, just like windows 98 which you can install now with no problem at all,as microsoft has finished worrying about this version,so it accepts that all the copies are not genuine,

note...4 million copys of windows 98 were sold in 1998,8 million copys were updated.........

so i would say.just install xp on your 2nd p.c and if it works ,which i think it will, thats fine, just remember if you ring up microsoft helpline..DO NOT tell them you have installed it on multiple p.c,s

good luck
don't do that microsoft will know because you have to register it.

How do I repair a corrupt Win XP Pro registry without the original CD?

As far as I can tell, the hard disk is ok (it still shows up in my RAID set), but Windows XP Pro won't boot, and gives me a system error ("windows\system32\config\system is missing or corrupt.")

Unfortunately I don't have the original OS disc, but i have a XP Media Edition CD, which came with a recent Dell system purchase. I attempted to repair my old comp from the CD, but the Windows Recovery console gave me a "cannot find hard disk" error. The console gives me the same error when I tried formatting a brand new hard disk with the CD, so I am thinking something is up with the Dell software. It's understandable that Dell would prohibit the software being used on any system but the one your bought from them.

So, would a new XP Pro CD work to repair the registry, even if it's not the original, or is there something else I'm missing?

How do I repair a corrupt Win XP Pro registry without the original CD?windows xp sp2

The CD you use must be from the same distribution as the CD used to install the software. If you have a computer that was installed using an OEM version of Windows, a Volume License or Retail copy will not work. The CD must also be of the same edition as well. If you are trying to repair a Home edition machine, a Professional CD will not work.

Unfortunately, without using some illegal tactics I would say that you're SOL on a repair unless you find that CD AND your repair disk.

But, what you can do is reinstall the machine from a new Windows CD and choose to install into a different directory instead of formatting the drive. At least that will allow you to get your data off the machine if you need to.

"Registry Mechanic" from http://www.downloads.com works every time for me.
Hope this will help.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545

You won't need an XP CD, just a startup disc, which can be freely downloaded from Microsoft.

For XP Home Edition this is the link:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/detai...

For XP Prof look here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/detai...
i have win xp media edition too and i am able to correct my system and return to factory settings via the control panel, there is an option return to factory settings and i can also set save points to return the computer too at later dates if i need too. if you still have the instruction manual for the computer there should be some information in that about it. hope this helped xx

Windows xp sp2?

is the service pack 2 merely a downloadable file from windows? i mean, if i buy windows xp pro with sp1, if i download sp2 will it be as complete as windows xps with the sp2 cd with them?

Windows xp sp2?microsoft internet explorer

Yes it will be as complete as those Windows XPs which come with SP2 . Just log on to

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/d...

and download.

Windows xp sp2?microsoft downloads internet explorer

You can download SP2 from Microsoft, although it's a large download. But yes, it's as complete as buying a copy with SP2 already.
You can either download SP2 or order it on a cd from Microsoft. It contains all of the upgrades through Feb. of 2006. All other upgrades will have to be downloaded and installed through the Windows upgrade site. Click Start/All Programs. Up in the top section of "All Programs" is the link to "Windows Update.

After you have installed SP2 you will need to go back to the Update site and download the rest of the updates. Be advised, there are allot of them.

Can I install Dell XP Pro on my second Dell laptop?

I have a new Dell PC running Windows XP Pro. I also have an old Dell laptop running Windows 2000 professional. Is it possibly to use the Dell XP Pro CD I have from my new system and upgrade the OS on my old laptop?

Can I install Dell XP Pro on my second Dell laptop?windows vista ultimate

Yes, If you have the green cd and the blue cd that came your dell. One cd is to install the operating system the other is to install the drivers, on the driver not all driver will be there like the modem, and multimedia sound card, grapic card, but those you can get them from dell website. Trust me you won't need a key, if your using the dell cd's and intalling them at a dell computer. It's ok and good luck

Can I install Dell XP Pro on my second Dell laptop?default browser internet explorer

yes dell will authenticate. there restore disk are just like that.
No, you'd need to buy another XP licence. Only free software, such as Linux, can be installed on as many computers as you like.
No, the Product key will not allow you to register it again.
You might be able to if the old laptop meets all the requirements for windows XP.
Dell computers ship with whats called OEM (original equipment manufacturer) CDs which check to see if the machine is a Dell and also what model it is.

Is it possible? Probably.

Is it legal or ethical? Probably not.

If it works I suggest you don't advertise it.
No, you can not. It may technically install, but this is illegal, and depending on the type of restore disk, will either flat out not work, or it may work and when you authenticate it, it will bring up a "Genuine Advantage" alert saying that it may be a pirated copy.
you can but yea the product key might. But it might work or it will shut your other one down. You can do it and just do a clean install every 30 days but that would get annoying. Other wise you have to find another product key.

Best thing to do is call Microsoft and ask them. They might be able to give you another product key.

or you could use a linux based OS those are free

Windows xp sp3?

I tried downloading sp3 on my windows xp pro in the office. I was hesitant to do it but i thought it won't do much harm since I work in an IT environ. I downloaded it with windows bootvis. Everything was smoothsailing and the windows fly. But I've heard this is not the case with everyone. I wonder why. Now, is it worth for me to download it to my laptop. Just asking for those who have such experience with SP3. Thanks.

you mean service pk 2 3 doesn't exist they never made a sevice pk 3. For xp.
Service pack 3 for Windows XP does exist...

I also work in the I.T. field however from what research i have done i haven't seen where it was important. It basically just contains updates that people fail to install by regularly updating their system.

I do not plan on installing on my machines at least not at this time.

Something such as the SP1 for Vista in my opinion was more important to push out than the SP3 for XP.
Hold off untill November

File sharing in windows XP HOME Edition???

I have network between two computers. one with windows xp pro and the second one with windows xp HOME....

I can access the shared folders in the computer with XP Pro but I can't access the shared folders in the XP HOME computer ????

it always says (you don't have permission, access is denied)

!!!???

File sharing in windows XP HOME Edition???windows 98

Make sure file and print sharing is enabled on xp home, Right click on the folder you want to share and click sharing. You can share the entire hard drive if you like!

File sharing in windows XP HOME Edition???microsoft support internet explorer

I have the same problem so when you find out will you let me know? Same windows versions also...lol
There may be some sharing problem.share the file through property

panel by rt. click. pr maybe there is a difference of os thats why.
Right click the folder and choose "sharing and and security" to share the files in the folder. If that still doesnt work, you may have to turn on file sharing for the pc in general. I forget how to do that. google for "file sharing xp home."
Turn off the built-in XP Firewall on both machines, if you also have another firewall, allow all traffic from both the ip address (make a rule in your firewall).
hi there! you can also access your computer from where you work. maybe the problem is you don't have permission from the computer. you must configure your server and also your computer firewall to allow remote computers to connect to your computer. One way or another peer 2 peer networks works only if you have permissions.
Because you have to make sure that you are the Administrator and you got to set both Computers so yyou can gain access to all files.Do you own both computers and are you logged on as an Administrator or just a guest.

Read up on your Help files or just press the "F1" key.

for further info go www,microsoft.com

Take care.
That's Microsoft for ya! You will need to set the permissions, but, If I Recall, that was yet another feature crippled in the 'Home " Edition!!!

I find it much easier to boot to the LiveCDrom of http://pclinuxos.com and mount the hard drive, and ritght click on the icon, change the read/write permissions, bring up SAMBA file sharing, and then transfer all the files that way, using drag 'n drop, onscreen. Rebooting after that, the folders will be on the hard drive, ready for me to use!

Even faster is Damn Small Linux.

Hey, Microsoft.com, Hotmail.com, MSN.com run 45,000 Linux computers! The OS is transparent to the actual security, file-sharing and efficiency of operations!

Or, 'sneaker net' with my 256 to 2GB USBsticks...
You have a great Hep function built into you Windows Operating system. It is on the Start menu. This can be frustrating but You can do it. There are a lot of possibilities.
