However, if you have to ask, you probably do not have the knowledge to be messing around in the registry. One mistype and you can crash the entire computer and prevent Windows from being able to load.

Let me first say, if you are asking this question, then don't go into the registry. You really need to know and understand the complete inner workings of Windows to make changes to the registry without destroying your system. If you need to know how to get into the registry, then I am guessing you don't know the inner workings of Windows.
To access registry:
Click start, run, type regedit, hit enter.
Go to start - run, and type in "regedit" then click "ok". Do not mess with the registry if you don't know what you are doing, you can make it so your computer will no longer boot up.

Although the answer by thunder2 is correct and to the point, however I understand you are trying to get some other thing.
If you are trying to repair the Windows or the MS Office etc., the system would ask for the product key which is either pasted on the down side of the CD Box or it is pasted on the body of the system. Enter the product key and you can repair the Windows or MS office as the case may be.
